Sri Lankan Navy arrests eight Indian fishermen
Eight Indian fishermen were arrested on Thursday by the Sri Lankan Navy on charges of crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line.

Their two boats were also seized by the navy, Assistant Director of Fisheries Department, S.Sekhar said.

The fishermen were taken to Kangesanthurai port, he said.

The arrested fishermen along with the fishing dhows will be handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Kankasanthurai for onward action, the Navy said.

According to Indian media, the arrested men were country boat fishermen from Kottaippattinam in the Pudukkottai district and it was the first incident that the country boat fishermen of the Pudukkottai district were arrested by the Sri Lankan authorities.
