Number of centrifuges in Iran’s nuclear site down to 1,044: MP

Chairman of Iranian Majlis’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said the number of centrifuges at Iran’s Fordow uranium enrichment facility has been reduced to 1,044, in accordance with a July nuclear deal with six world powers.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday, Boroujerdi, whose parliamentary commission is tasked with monitoring the implementation of the nuclear deal known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), highlighted the country’s measures to carry out its commitments under the deal.

“During our visit to the Fordow nuclear site, we found that measures taken in the site have been in compliance with the deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany),” he said.

The lawmaker added that the number of centrifuges at the nuclear site has been reduced to 1,044.

According to a law that requires the Iranian administration to safeguard the nation’s achievements and nuclear rights, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has a duty to monitor “the proper implementation” of the JCPOA, and is required to submit a report on the issue to the presiding board of the parliament every six months.
