Golestan to host Tribal Culture Festival

The Seventh International Festival of Iranian Tribal Culture will be held in Gorgan’s International Fairground in Golestan province during Aug. 29-Sept. 2, Iran Daily reported.

Announcing this, Qorban Abbasi, secretary of the festival, said the ambassador of tourism target countries, especially Persian-speaking and neighboring countries, those involved in tourism industry and craftsmen from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Pakistan will participate in the festival.

The official said holding a handicraft exhibition, introducing attractions and tourism target villages of the provinces and performing tribal music and rituals are among programs, which will be performed during the festival.

He said the allocation of pavilions to tourism target villages and tribal martyrs are among new measures lined up for the festival.

“Thanks to the efforts made by related officials, the Festival of Iranian Tribal Culture will be registered on the National Heritage List in the current year,” he said.

Abbasi said people from various Iranian tribes with different cultures and traditions live in Golestan province.

Golestan is one of the 31 provinces of Iran located in the northeast of the country and south of the Caspian Sea. Its capital is Gorgan.

An official of Golestan’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department said earlier that more than 68,000 foreign tourists arrived in Golestan province last year.

Ahmad Tajari added that the foreign tourists were from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Germany, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and China.

“Tourism industry plays a very significant role in the improvement of major economic indices, including employment and cultural and social development,” he said.
