Falak-ol-Aflak awaits UNESCO registration

Falak-ol-Aflak Castle in city of Khorramabad in Lorestan Province, west of Iran, awaits registration on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s World Heritage List.

According to Iran Daily, it is the most famous monument of Lorestan province and 25-30 percent of its surrounding areas have been merged with the monument.
The castle, which belongs to Sassanid era, is registered on Iran’s National Heritage List. About $3.4 million have been spent for acquiring the surrounding areas of Falak-ol-Aflak.
Dianoush Cheraghi, the deputy head of Lorestan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, warned that the monument would not be registered on the World Heritage List unless its precincts are merged with the monument.
Cheraghi lamented that no effective measure has been taken for the global registration of Falak-ol-Aflak Castle.
Falak-ol-Aflak has eight towers and two courtyards with a total area of 5,300 square meters.
Construction materials such as brick, stone and plaster have been used in it.
The castle is bound by Khorramabad River in the east, Davazdah Borji Street in the west and Falak-ol-Aflak Street in the north.
