According to Press TV on Friday, February 05, the two films to represent Iran are Twenty directed by Abdur-Reza Kahani and Ashkan, Sacred Signet and Some Other Stories by Shahram Mokri. The tragicomic film Twenty, starring Parviz Parastuii and Mahtab Karamati, focuses on a once-popular reception hall now reduced to catering for the funeral business, whose workers are struggling to preserve it after the owner decides to sell the place in twenty days. The 88-minute production made its international debut in the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The movie won the Czech Festival's Special Jury Prize and the Prize of Ecumenical Jury. The 90-minute Ashkan, Sacred Signet and Some Other Stories sheds light on the story of two friends who want to rob a jewelry shop. Ashkan is a young man who inadvertently falls prey to the miscreants. The Santa Barbara International Film Festival, whose motto this year is '11 Amazing Days, 10 Starry Nights,' began Thursday, February 4 and continues through Sunday, February 14, 2010. |
