Britons are enraged by an extensive number of lawmakers, who have made false claims about their expenses and have yet to pay back the over-two-million-dollar misused taxpayer money. According to Press TV, following a scandal that surrounds over 300 incumbent and former lawmakers the British people realized that the ostentatious lifestyle of their representatives was being paid for out of their pockets. Adding insult to injury, some of the lawmakers who have been ordered to repay the expenses are refusing to do so. A new report published by Sir Thomas Legg, a member of the Audit Commission and the House of Commons Audit Committee, about the expenses of the British lawmakers names 77 current and former parliamentarians who still have repayments outstanding. Richard Page, the former lawmakers for South West Hertfordshire, was asked to repay GBP 1,078.73 for the cost of a carpet and for twice claiming a maintenance charge. He said he'd paid a GBP 599 "settlement" and would not pay more. Parliamentarian Sir Peter Viggers has been ordered to repay more than GBP 13,000 in expenses — which he has failed to pay back. Sir Thomas has called on the lawmakers to repay the expenses that they should have paid themselves, but they paid from the government's budget. The total amount of repayment exceeds $2 million. |
