Swedish minister confers with Iranian officials on expansion of ties

Swedish Minister for Enterprise, Mikael Damberg, in his visit to Tehran, met and conferred with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ministers on expansion of the two countries’ relations in the industrial, commercial, energy, science, and technological realms. Meetings with Iran’s minister of industry, mines, and trade, minister of energy, minister of oil, minister of communications and information technology, and the governor of Central Bank of Iran were on the agenda of the Swedish minister for enterprise, on Saturday and Sunday.

 

Iran’s Minster of Industry, Mines, and Trade, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, in a meeting with the Swedish minister, named joint and long-term investment as of the main goals and policies of Iran, while adding that Iran is prepared to broaden and foster mutual cooperation with Sweden on exports.

This Iranian minister went on to point out that development of domestic and foreign trade, usage of modern technologies, innovation, steel and electronic industries, food industry, and energy are the most important domains of cooperation between Iran and Sweden.

Moreover, the Swedish minister for enterprise, in a meeting with Iran’s Minister of Energy, Hamid Chitchian, on Saturday, noted that Islamic Republic of Iran has been the first Middle Eastern market for Sweden, while emphasizing that even in the period of time when sanctions were imposed; the Swedish companies remained active in Iran.

Meanwhile, the Iranian minister of energy reported on the preparedness of Iranian companies for cooperation with Sweden on new sources of energy. He went on to add that Iran’s electricity industry is determined to establish thermal, solar, and nuclear power stations for production of 50,000 megawatts of electricity in the next decade.

Furthermore, investment of Swedish companies in Iran’s oil industry was the talking point in a meeting between the Swedish minister for enterprise, and Iran’s Minister of Oil, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, in Tehran on the second day of the Swedish minister’s visit to Iran.

The Iranian minister of oil welcomed the joint investment of Sweden in Iran, while adding that the joint investment of Sweden aims to tap into Iran’s market, in addition to presence in the regional market via Iran’s route.

Consultations with Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mahmoud Vaezi, on avenues for expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of technology, was also on the agenda of the visiting Swedish minister for enterprise on Sunday.

In an address to reporters after this meeting, Iran’s minister of communications and information technology reported on the foundation of Sweden’s Commercial Bureau in Iran, which aims to develop cooperation between the two countries. He also expressed hope that upon the visit of Swedish minister for enterprise to Tehran, the stage would be set for expansion of ties between the two countries’ state-run and private sectors.

The Swedish minister for enterprise also met and conferred with the Governor of Central Bank of Iran, Waliollah Saif. In this meeting, Saif pointed out that Iran’s banking system maintains appropriate communications with Sweden’s banking system, which are set to expand under the fresh conditions.
